Interesting Ways Coffee Is Made Around the World

People drink their coffee in a variety of ways. Some like lattes, others prefer cold brew, some enjoy coffee enemas. To each their own. Nonetheless, it’s no surprise that each country has its own special way to prepare and drink coffee. Below are 4 different ways that coffee is consumed around the world.

Indonesia Kopi Tubruk - The traditional method of preparing coffee begins with mixing finely ground coffee and sugar together in a beer glass. Next, boiling water is added to the coffee and sugar mixture, then mixed and let to settle. After five minutes, it is ready to drink!

Scandanavian Egg Coffee - This recipe begins by mixing coarse ground coffee with a whole egg (yes, the shell is included). This coffee/egg/shell mixture is then poured into boiling water and stirred well. The mixture simmers for five minutes, then a cup of cold water is added in. After that, it’s ready to serve with a ladle!

Brazilian Cafezinho - This Brazilian drink is characterized as a really small and really sweet cup of coffee. Sugar and water are brought to a boil in a pot. After the sugar is dissolved, finely ground coffee is added in, then the mixture is filtered through a “sock” or cloth strainer.

Turkish “Sand” Coffee - Who knew that sand could be used to brew coffee? A special pot called a ‘cezve’ or ‘ibrik’ is filled with water, coffee grounds, and sometimes sugar or cardamon. The cezve is placed in a heated pan filled with sand, which acts as a heat regulator. The pot is removed and added to the sand, multiple times to allow the grounds to settle to the bottom.
